We have recorded or livestreamed MANY events over the years, and it’s one of our favorite things that we get to do as a video agency. Selfishly, we love learning from all of the amazing speakers that are featured at our client’s events. And we especially love the energy, the gathering of people and the lively exchange of ideas. Filming these moments is fun from our side of things, but planning ahead for event videos is also important.
Video is crucial for events because it allows you to capture the essence of the experience, create an emotional connection with the audience, generate excitement, and market the event by showcasing highlights, key moments, and the overall atmosphere. Plus, event videos serve as a record of important moments, speeches, and performances, creating lasting memories for you and your attendees.
Types of Event Videos
There are a lot of things to consider when planning to create an event video, and the first step is deciding which type of video (or videos) will help you achieve your marketing goals, deliver your message, and connect with your audience.
Here are some examples from our own archive of different event video types.
Pre-Event Promo Video:
This type of video is a great way to drum up excitement ahead of your event and can be a useful tool to help drive ticket sales and educate your audience about what to expect. These could take the form of short teasers, interviews with speakers, or highlight reels from previous events.
Promo videos can also be repurposed to serve as a fun and entertaining video to use again at your actual event.
Event Webcast:
Giving viewers the option to livestream helps to broaden your audience, which is definitely a huge plus. Live streaming can allow you to reach people who might not be able to attend an event in person, such as those who are unable to travel or have scheduling conflicts, and it can create a platform for immediate interaction with viewers, which can help you build a sense of community and genuine connections.
As an added bonus, you can do a lot with the live recording of your event, like break out individual presentations, panels or talks into shorter videos or quick clips for social media.
Post-Event Highlight Reel:
Another popular event video is the post-event sizzle or highlight reel. This is another great way to get the most out of footage that was recorded at your event, and sizzle reels can help show more of the energy of your event by including short clips from often many hours of material. Post-event videos are also great for showing footage beyond what’s on stage, so viewers can get a feel for the vibe and the details, and get excited for your next event.
Video can be a really useful tool for spreading the word about your next science event or any event that you might be planning, and it’s also an excellent way to engage with and expand your audience. The different types of video noted here can each serve a unique purpose during the pre-planning, execution and post-event phases of your next big gathering.
